Q & A's with Nicole Schmidt - Kinesiologist

Nicole has been member of our Beaumont Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic team since January 2019.

Why did you become a kinsesiologist?

Growing up I had a family member that required a lot of physiotherapy. I saw the benefits of physiotherapy treatment and the exercise that goes along with it. This inspired me and today I enjoy seeing the benefits of exercise to our patients first hand.

What is your favorite product to use with our patients?

My favorite is the Bosu because it is so versatile. It can be used for balance, ankle knee & core coordination and strengthening. I also love to use it for strength progression exercises such as squats and push ups.

When you're not at work what are likely doing?

I love hiking! I recently hiked Lady MacDonald in Canmore. I also loved the challenge of my first back packing overnight hike. I spent 3 nights hiking the Michelle Lakes near Banff, it was difficult but so rewarding. My other favorite thing to do is spending my time walking my German Shepard, Stella. She keeps me busy and active and on the constant search for new local trails and parks.

How do you embrace a healthy lifestyle with your diet?

I do face the challenge of being celiac. I need to make the proper choices and read every label! I adjust my recipes with all of the gluten free options that are now available. A favorite is the gluten free pizza available at Costco, my boyfriend doesn't notice any difference. I am pretty lucky that my co-workers always consider an option that works for me at our work lunches.

Do you have a favorite charity?

ASRAB - Alberta Sports and Recreation Association for the Blind is near and dear to my heart. There are many options with ASRAB for the visually impaired to support and maintain an active lifestyle. I'm running in the Sight Night Run this Saturday at Rundle Park, you can walk or run and choose a distance that works for you.
