Your feet are the foundation for the rest of your body acting much the same as the foundation of a house. Ensuring your feet are healthy and supported is important to assist you in moving pain-free. A custom orthotic is a support for your foot and is built specifically for your feet based on a thorough assessment by our therapists.

The right orthotics can reduce pain, provide support, prevent foot deformity, relieve pressure, and improve biomechanical function of the body. Orthotics help and encourage the foot return to a more normal movement pattern with the ultimate goal of recruiting the right balance of muscles to work in conjunction with each other.

Orthotics are recommended for:

  • People who suffer from sore feet with standing, walking or running.

  • People who suffer from joint pain in the ankles, knees, hips or back.

  • People who stand and work on hard surfaces such as concrete.

  • People diagnosed with diabetes.

  • People who play sports including hockey, golf, skiing, running.

  • People suffering from foot deformities such as flat feet, bunions, and corns.

  • People needing foot support in a dress shoe, running shoe, skates, ski boots or sandals.

When you book an appointment with one of our therapists, we will assess your lower body and feet and perform a gait analysis of your gait cycle. A person's “Gait Cycle” is the time period and sequence of movements during locomotion where one foot contacts the ground and then that same foot again contacts the ground. The gait cycle involves forward propulsion and is also known as a stride. Our dynamic computerized scan technology will provide a picture of how your feet are contacting the ground through the movement cycle.

With the results of the biomechanical assessment and computerized assessment, our therapists will determine whether or not orthotics are indicated for you, and if so, what type of orthotic you may need.

If you think you may benefit from orthotics, contact our clinic (780) 929-5217, to make an appointment with one of our therapists. Custom Footmaxx Orthotics are 10% for the month of February.
